Department of Veterans Affairs

Returning service members from Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND) can look to the VA for employment assistance, health care, education and vocational training, housing assistance, stress and mental health programs and disability benefits.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA)

IAVA is the first and largest nonprofit dedicated to helping those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Veterans can join the community for free and participate in programs such as The Rucksack, which connects veterans with great rewards such as concert tickets and discounts on business wear. The program focuses on community, assistance, advocacy and awareness.

Grace After Fire

Specifically for females returning home, Grace After Fire can assist women in transitioning back into family life and the workplace. The nonprofit organization provides women with resources and a peer support system that can help connect female veterans with other female veterans in their area.

Returning Veterans Project

This non-profit organization is comprised of independent healthcare practitioners who offer free and confidential services for returning service members.

Veterans may be eligible to receive counseling and therapy, chiropractic and naturopathic medicine, massage therapy and other health care services. For more information visit www.returningveterans.org.


Helmets to Hardhats

Helmets to Hardhats is a national, non-profit program that connects men and women from the Armed Forces with building and construction careers. The program was created with the intention of helping military members transition back into civilian life. Additionally, a “Wounded Warrior” program that helps connect disabled veterans with employment opportunities.

Feds Hire Vets

Run by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Feds Hire Vets is a great source for veterans, transitioning service members and their families. The website provides information on how federal jobs are filled, special hiring authority, education/training opportunities and more.
