U.S. Olympic Committee Paralympic Military Sports Program
The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) Paralympic Military & Veteran Programs provide support and mentoring to servicemen and women who have suffered from a disabling condition such as an amputation, spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury.
Through partnerships with the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, the USOC program has impacted the lives of thousands of injured veterans.
One particular program called the U.S. Paralympic integrated sports program works to ensure that disabled veterans or service members have opportunities available for physical activity. Notably, more than 8,000 veterans with disabilities participated in these types of programs and activities since they launched.
A Growing Tradition for Veterans
Approximately 850 community, sports, military, veterans and leaders have been providing training and support to develop or expand existing programs for veterans. Since 2010, the number of Paralympic sport clubs or community sports organizations available for veterans and service members has quadrupled.
Additionally, the USOC continues to work with the VA on outreach and awareness efforts to inform disabled veterans and their families about these programs and how they can be a part of them.
