Gravesite Locator

The VA operates a national gravesite locator database where families can search for deceased loved ones.

Adding a Gravesite

If a record is not available from the database, families can provide the following information to the VA for help locating their loved one’s gravesite:

• Full name
• Date and place of birth
• Date and place of death
• State from which the individual entered active duty
• Military service branch

The database of burial information is updated daily. Records from numerous sources are included, and although incorrect information can be amended it cannot be added to the existing record.

Arlington National Cemetery handles information for service members buried there, and the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) handles information on service members buried overseas.
