Business to Hold Motorcycle Ride to Raise VA Awareness

Retired Col. Gus Fitch is collaborating with Aiken Motorcycle Sales and Service to organize and sponsor a Ride for Veterans to further emphasize veterans care in the CSRA.

The event will be Saturday with registration from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Aiken Motorcycle, 2129 Whiskey Road. The event will start at 10:45 a.m. and a barbecue lunch will be available for $5 beginning at noon.

According to a press release, the event is open to veterans and nonveterans, riders and nonriders, and is a grass-roots effort on the part of the motorcycle community to bring attention to the VA issues by urging the S.C. Congressional delegation to focus on resolving VA issues.

Each attendee will have the opportunity to handwrite a message to the South Carolina representatives, regardless of party affiliation, which will be mailed with postage supplied by the Aiken Chapter, Military Officers of America Association, wrote Linda Caldwell, the vice president of the association.

Caldwell added that delays in receiving care at Veterans Affairs medical facilities have been the status quo for generations.

As many veterans can attest, its not the level of care that is problematic; its getting access to that care, she said.
