N.J. Department of Environmental Protection to hold job fair for military veterans
Seeking to help military veterans transition back to civilian life, the state Department of Environmental Protection will hold a job fair this month at their Trenton headquarters.Representatives from the DEP, the Environmental Infrastructure Trust, Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs will be at the event to answer questions and provide information.
Candidates can apply for jobs with DEP and EIT in more than 20 areas, including clerical, human resources, information technology, risk management, State Park Police officers, forest fire observers, research scientists, communications operators and environmental engineer trainees.
There will also be information sessions on veterans benefits, job specifications, tips for filling out applications and preparing for interviews.
DEP veteran ambassadors, veterans from various military branches now working for the DEP, will also be on hand to speak with veterans and assist them through the application process. DEP currently has 91 veterans working for the department.
(We) are committed to hiring more of these dedicated men and women who have served their country so well, said commissioner Bob Martin. We strongly encourage veterans seeking employment to attend the job fair and take a look at what we might offer them.
The event will be held on Sept. 17 at 401 East State Street in Trenton from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor in the public hearing room.
Those interested in attending are asked to register by Monday although walk-ins are welcome.
Veterans attending the job fair should bring their civilian/military photo ID and their resume, and should dress business casual. To register for Civil Service Veterans Preference, veterans should bring their discharge papers.
