VA Medical Center to sponsor annual Homeless Summit at Girl Scouts office

The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is hosting its annual Homeless Summit from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Wichita Girl Scouts building, 360 Lexington, according to a news release.

The summit is open to the public and aims to build relationships with community partners to end homelessness among veterans.

Mayor Carl Brewer will be a guest speaker at the event.

According to the VA, the national point-in-time count in January 2013 showed there were about 57,849 homeless veterans.

The VA has made a goal to end veteran homelessness by the end of 2015.

Each VA has a homeless coordinator to help veterans find housing. To reach the national hotline, call 877-4AID-VET.
