15 Inductees for Arkansas Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame (AMVHOF) announced the following Arkansans for induction during ceremonies to be held November 1st at the Embassy Suites with U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman presenting the Medallions.
Sergeant Major Robert Gene Brashears of Harrisburg served two combat tours in Vietnam. Awards include Legion of Merit, three Bronze Star Medals, and the Air Medal with the 1st Air Cavalry Division.
Major General Ronald Stephen Chastain of Conway served in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He was the first Arkansas General to command Arkansas units in combat since the Civil War. His awards include the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, and four Meritorious Service Medals.
Tech Sergeant Kirby Cowan, deceased, of Harrisburg served in World War II and survived four German prison camps including the Buchenwald Concentration camp. Awards include three Air Medals and the Purple Heart Medal.
Master Sergeant Parnell Gene Fisher of Jacksonville earned the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry and the Distinguished Flying Cross for service in Vietnam as a member of the 4th Air Commando Squadron.
Major John Barrett Floyd, deceased, of North Little Rock served in combat in Vietnam as a Pilot and his awards include the Bronze Star Medal for Valor and two Distinguished Flying Crosses.
Lt. Colonel John Frederick Hay of Texarkana. His awards include the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry, the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the Purple Heart Medal, and six Air Medals for combat in Vietnam.
Staff Sergeant Danny Lee Jacks of Rison earned the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry, the Bronze Star Medal for Valor and the Purple Heart Medal during combat in Vietnam.
Command Sergeant Major Cleo Lee of Newport served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Purple Heart Medal and four Army Commendation Medals.
Captain Art Bradley Martin, deceased, of Greenwood earned the Bronze Star Medal while serving as a Medical Officer in the 76th Infantry Division in World War II. Following the War he served the Fort Smith area as a Physician, Medical Director, and Historian.
Sergeant Major Richard Junior Nail of Lafferty served three tours in Vietnam with the 5th Special Forces Group and was inducted into the Special Forces Regimental Hall of Fame. Among his awards are three Bronze Star Medals for Valor, the Purple Heart Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Colonel Robert Allen Phillips, deceased, of Hot Springs Village served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars earning the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry, two awards of the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross and 18 Air Medals.
Lt. Colonel Robert Martin Schoenborn, Jr. of Jonesboro was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in Vietnam .During his 20 year Army career he earned the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and three awards of the Meritorious Service Medal. He is Chairman of the Arkansas Veterans Commission and active in Veterans support work in Northeast Arkansas.
Lt. Colonel Danny Arlen Stedman of Sherwood served as an Air Force pilot in Vietnam and earned two Air Medals and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Active in civic affairs in Sherwood, he has served as a member of the Sherwood City Council and Mayor.
Colonel Tom Warner Thomas of Searcy fought as an Infantry Officer in Vietnam earning the Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for Valor. He served three decades in the Arkansas Army National Guard earning the Legion of Merit. He serves on the Arkansas Veterans Commission and is active in civic service to Searcy.
Lt. Colonel David Ray Wallace of Leachville earned three awards of the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal, and 18 Air Medals during combat in Vietnam.
