Disabled veteran breaks into Kennedy home

Man has been in home for several hours, police say

UPDATED 12:08 AM EDT Jul 16, 2014

HYANNIS, Mass. A disabled veteran has been arrested after police say he broke into the Hyannis home of Ted Kennedy Jr.

Around 9:37 p.m., Barnstable police said they received a 911 call from Kennedy saying an unknown person was inside.

Police responded to the home and said they found the man, who has only been identified as a disabled veteran, inside.

Police said the man was wishing to speak with Sen. Ted Kennedy’s wife, Vicki.

The man was not armed and never harmed anyone, police said.

The man is being charged with breaking and entering in the daytime and trespassing.

Police said he’s being charged with daytime breaking and entering because although the 911 call was made Tuesday night, police said they believe the man had been inside the home for several hours.

The man will be arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Wednesday.
