Frederick Nonprofit Receives Grant to Help Veterans
Frederick-based Way Station Inc. has received a grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide transitional housing and supportive services to homeless veterans.
The Frederick nonprofit has locations in Carroll, Frederick, Howard and Washington counties. It received $240,884 to continue providing housing and services to homeless veterans who come from special needs groups, including women, frail elderly, the terminally ill, chronically mentally ill and individuals who care for minors, according to a news release from the VA. The grant award was announced Thursday.
Way Station received a grant from the VA for the same amount last year.
Besides veterans, the nonprofit also provides health care, housing and employment services to adults with mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance addictions. It also provides aid to children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral needs.
