Military Vet Gets Mortgage-Free Home
SAN ANTONIO One of our nation’s heroes found out he will soon be moving into a mortgage-free home.
Ret. Army Spec. Ilya Rakevich sustained combat-related injuries during his deployment to Afghanistan. On Thursday, during the UTSA football game, he was recognized as this year’s Chevrolet Everyday Hero.
For the second year in a row, San Antonio area Chevy dealers teamed up with the Military Warriors Support Foundation and Wells Fargo to give a wounded veteran a free home.
Rakevich grew up in Belarus, but after moving to the United States, he and his wife now call San Antonio home. As for the future, he says he’d like to go back to school and pursue a degree in computer science.
