Oakland County Veterans Participate in Statewide Tough Mudder Event

The VFW Post 1370 Retro Fitness Renegades participated in the Tough Mudder Event at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Tough Mudder events are hardcore obstacle courses designed to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie and participants worldwide have raised $5 million for the Wounded Warrior Project through its events.

U.S. Marine Corps veteran Post 1370 Cmdr. Mo De La O said that the post members have been training at Retro Fitness at the Tel-Huron Shopping Center in Pontiac for weeks and that their team did great on the 12-mile military style obstacle course, which was formidable.

La O said, Our post has been working with Retro Fitness to promote several things, including getting our vets and families back into shape, attain more health awareness and, in the same fashion, bring more awareness to the good that the Wounded Warrior Project is doing. It was a simple win-win. My personal side mission was to demonstrate that good things can happen, but only if youre active in your community. There are multiple ways to make an impact; none of them are achieved through complacency.

He said that he looks forward to working with Retro Fitness in the future, because if we continue to work together, we will continue to favorably impact our community for a long time.

VFW Post 1370 is at 800 Cesar Chavez in Pontiac. For more information, call 248-858-9501. Retro Fitness is at Tel-Huron Shopping Center, 47 S. Telegraph Road, Pontiac. For more information, call 248-507-4377.

ORTONVILLE POST RAFFLE

VFW Post 582 Cmdr. Dennis Hoffman reports that post members participated in the recent Ortonville Septemberfest, an annual community event for 25 years, and had a food tent and a raffle tent on Pond St.

He said that the raffle winners names were drawn by young people from the crowd including Abbie Hazelton, Ripley Pallay, Samantha Thomson, Jessica Thomson and John-Riley Hoffman.

The prizes were a 46-inch flat screen Samsung TV, a Hewlett Packard laptop computer, $100 gift card from Bueches Food World, a $50 gift card from Bullfrogs Bar and Grill and a $50 gift card from Tractor Supply Co.

Thank you to everyone who supported the VFW in our raffle fund raiser, Hoffman said. All money raised goes right back into the community and thank you to Bullfrogs for donating their gift card and to Bueches and Tractor Supply Co. for allowing us to sell our raffle tickets there.

Hoffman said that the VFW Voice of Democracy Competition entry forms are in the High Schools in Ortonville and Goodrich. This years theme for the Voice of Democracy audio-essay competition is Why Veterans are Important to our Nations History and Future with a $30,000 scholarship to the national first-place winner and The Patriots Pen essay contest is in the Brandon Middle School with the theme of Why I Appreciate Americas Veterans with a grand prize $5,000 award to the national first-place winner and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Good luck to all, Hoffman said.
