Homeless shelter to be redeveloped, adding new units for veterans
Wednesday October 30, 2014 (RealEstateRama) Today the Patrick Administration announced $6.23 million in funding to support the redevelopment of the New England Center for Homeless Veterans on Court Street in Boston. The announcement furthers the states Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness among Veterans released in March 2013.
The Patrick Administration is committed to improving the lives of Massachusetts veterans, said Undersecretary of Housing and Community Development Aaron Gornstein. The investment in the New England Center for Homeless Veterans is an important step in ending homelessness among veterans.
Every veteran who has served our country deserves a place to call home, said Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh. Thats why my administration is supporting this project and all efforts to make veterans homelessness a thing of the past. Boston has had great success in reducing homelessness, but working together with our partners, we will continue this work until every Bostonian including our veterans has a safe, affordable place to call home.
The New England Center for Homeless Veterans, which currently has a limited number of rooms for veterans, is in need of substantial repair and reconfiguration. The funds announced today by the Patrick Administration will help support the full-scale rehabilitation and reconfiguration of the facility, resulting in 96 single room occupancy units and 165 transitional beds for veterans.
