Tomah VA to host 28th annual Platoon Run

TOMAH, WI–For the 28th year, automobiles and motorcycles from across Wisconsin will converge at the Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center on Sunday, Aug. 24 for the Platoon Run XXVIII Car and Motorcycle Show.

The day begins with a continental breakfast at Tomah Recreation Park from 9-11 a.m. The breakfast is sponsored by Root River Rods and Kustoms.

The activities begin at noon with a cruise of antique and classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. The vehicles will depart from Tomah Recreation Park on Highway CM to Highway 16 and then turn north on Superior Avenue. The cruise will then continue on Superior Avenue to Veterans Street and finally to the VA Medical Center.

The public is encouraged to greet the drivers along the route as they tour Tomah.

The purpose of the Platoon Run is to provide entertainment for the veterans hospitalized at the Tomah VA. Car and motorcycle owners will also be escorting hospitalized veterans to the show. There will be rare and classic cars such as model Ts, 57 Chevys and scores of flashy motorcycles.

A panel of veterans will judge the entries and select three winners of the show: best car, best motorcycle and peoples choice. The awards program will be held at 2:30 p.m.

The free event includes music and ice cream for sale.

All proceeds from the car show will be used for VA patient recreational programming.

The Platoon Run is sponsored by the following organizations and clubs: Wizards of Rods, Abate of Wisconsin, Root River Rods and Kustoms, and Boy Scout Troop 146 of Monona.

The public is invited to attend all Platoon Run events.
