This month, the VA announced a $112 million grant funding opportunity for organizations that offer suicide prevention services for veterans nationwide.
The funds for this grant were made available through the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program. The Fox Program honors Army veteran Parker Gordon Fox and offers suicide prevention programs that reach beyond the clinical setting. Since its launch in September 2022, the Fox Program has awarded $210 million to 111 organizations across 46 states, U.S. territories, and Tribal lands and more than 90% of participants in Fox Program services have reported improvements in well-being, mental health, social support, and/or financial stability.
Fox Program grants are aimed to support locally-based organizations, such as nonprofit organizations, state and local governments, tribes, and other community-based organizations that provide suicide prevention services for eligible Veterans and service members and their families. These services include:
- Outreach to identify eligible Veterans at risk of suicide
- Mental health screening
- Education on suicide risk and prevention for families and communities
- Clinical services for emergency treatment
- Case management services
- Peer support services
- Assistance in obtaining any VA or other federal, state, or local benefits the Veteran and their family may be eligible to receive, including assistance with emergent needs
- Nontraditional, innovative, or other services as defined in the Notice of Funding Opportunity and approved by VA
“These grants invest directly in communities that know Veterans best and are often the first to recognize when someone is struggling,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins. “They have been successful in connecting Veterans, service members, and their families — especially those not yet engaged with VA — to services that help reduce suicide risk and promote well-being.”
Applications for funding will open on April 6, 2026 and close at 4:59 p.m. Eastern Time on June 12, 2026. To learn more about the Fox Program, click here.
