VA Pressed Again To Look Into Tomah Overmedication Reports
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is launching an investigation into reports of overmedication and retaliatory management practices at the VA Medical Center in Tomah.
Congressman Ron Kind, whose district includes Tomah, planned to meet with officials at the center Thursday.
U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin’s office says the Veterans Health Administration and the Office of Accountability Review is conducting the investigation.
A story by The Center for Investigative Reporting says the number of opiates prescribed at the Tomah VA more than quintupled between 2004 and 2012, even as veterans seeking treatment there declined.
Kind had previously referred a 2011 complaint sent to his office to the VA inspector general, which conducted an investigation that was completed last year. He says it found no criminal wrongdoing but recommendation changes.
