Activision has announced a two-week event centered around the launch of the latest Call of Duty. The fundraising event, called Race for 1,000 Jobs, aims to provide employment assistance for military veterans. Players can participate by donating money, raising donations during a gaming marathon, and buying limited edition Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare dog tags.
From November 2 through November 7, five Twitch streamers (Ernest Le, Goldglove, Goldenboy, iiJERiiCHOii, TmarTn) will be broadcasting Advanced Warfare here while raising money for the Call of Duty Endowment. On November 4, limited edition dog tags will go on sale, with all profits going directly to the endowment.
It all leads up to a gameathon on Veterans Day, which is November 11. Players can sign up at the official site, where they can ask for donations. In addition to raising money for the foundation, players who raise $100 for the drive can get a copy of Advanced Warfare for the Xbox One or 360. Those who raise $1,000 also earn a chance to win a Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare limited edition Xbox One. The person who raises the most money during the drive wins a trip to San Francisco to meet up with the game’s developers at Sledgehammer Games.
After The Race to 1,000, the Call of Duty Endowment will work with the consultancy firm Deloitte to give money to organizations that have demonstrated a track record of hiring veterans.
Our Take
Activision and the teams that work on the Call of Duty franchise treat the military with a degree of reverence, and this is the kind of thing the Call of Duty Endowment was designed for. According to Activision, the unemployment rate among veterans in the U.S. is nearly three times higher than the national average. Considering that veterans put their lives on hold and often sacrifice their own safety during their service, it’s good to see efforts like these designed to close that gap.
