Chamber Flag Ceremony, Annual Parade Honors Military Veterans

Staff Reports The Bellevue Harpeth Chamber of Commerce will honor area veterans by hosting a brief ceremony on Tuesday. The Veterans Day flag dedication is planned for noon at the SunTrust Bank flag site, 7121 Highway 70S at Old Harding Pike.

All Bellevue-area veterans are invited to attend the Nov. 11 ceremony. Several local officials and Chamber members will be in attendance, and Kona Ice will provide free red and blue ice treats.

Bellevues business and community leaders are proud to honor our veterans. Please join us in celebrating the commitment and sacrifice of these men and women, without whom we would not have the freedoms we enjoy today, said Jad Duncan, Chamber president.

The event begins an hour after Nashvilles long-running Veterans Day Parade makes its annual run along Broadway (between 14th and 3rd avenues). The parade organizers have made it their quest to hold the event on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, which is the historical connection to the end of World War I.

Metro Police officer Felipe Pereira, a Distinguished Service Cross recipient, is this years co-Grand Marshal (with Paulette Carson, formerly of Highway 101). Pereira was presented with the nations second highest military award for his heroic action while serving with the 101st Airborne Division in Afghanistan.
