CINCINNATI — Some employees at Cincinnatis Veterans Affairs Medical Center are set to protest over what they say are bad conditions at the facility.
Members of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) said they will hold a demonstration at 11:30 a.m. Friday at 3200 Vine St.
The workers said they feel the facility is understaffed and mismanaged. The group said the situation is harmful to veterans.
“Cincinnati VA Medical Center staff understand how critical this hospital is to veterans and this community. They are standing up for veterans and saying enough is enough,” AFGE VA Local 2031 President Charles Smith said via a release. “We have not seen the changes outlined in last year’s VA legislation take shape in Cincinnati. It is time for management at this facility to make good on its promise and fully support the services America’s veterans deserve.”
Smith said employees haven’t seen the changes outlined in last year’s VA legislation take shape in Cincinnati.
A spokeswoman for the Cincinnati VA Medical Center says it has no higher priority than ensuring that veterans access the high-quality care they’ve earned. Spokeswoman Denise Kerr says the facility has worked with union leaders regarding their concerns and will continue to do so.
The Department of Veterans Affairs has taken several hits over the past year as many of its facilities were investigated for long wait times.
