Deputy VA Secretary Visits Charleston’s Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center
CHARLESTON, South Carolina A top Veterans Affairs official is scheduled to visit the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston to see its new mental health research center.
Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Sloan Gibson is set to arrive on Friday afternoon. Besides touring the new research center, Gibson was to meet with the Medical Center’s leaders, staff and employees.
The mental health research center is set to open on Monday.
In July, Gibson toured the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. He said at the time that the VA was reaching out to veterans, adding staff and extending clinic hours. His visit came in the wake of the scandal over long patient wait times and falsified records at VA hospitals and clinics across the country.
