Floyd County, Iowa Appoints New Director for VA Office

New Veterans Affairs Director

CHARLES CITY, Iowa A new face in the Floyd County Veterans Affairs office is bringing a breath of fresh air in the midst of controversy.

The Veterans Affairs Commission has had its ups and downs over the past couple of months, and during a meeting on Monday, disputes continued between board members and supervisors as they heard more harsh criticism about the current chairman Dennis Sanvig. A couple of months ago a petition was turned in with more than 200 signatures requesting that Sanvig be removed from his position, and because of all of the trials and tribulations, veterans started to get frustrated when their voices werent being heard.

However, that wont be the case for long. Veterans can take a sigh of relief as the commission recently announced, and appointed a new director for the Veterans Affairs Office in Floyd County, Maria Deike.

Deike is pushing aside the recent disagreements within the VA Commission, and is bringing the organization back to its main focus; the veterans. Ive been to Iraq from 2003 to 2004. I was in the army stationed at Fort Hood Texas, and then I went to the Iowa National Guard from 2006 to 2012. Her expertise on the battlefield will no doubt pave the way to success in the field of leading the commissioners, but her experience as a Floyd county VA Commissioner will be helpful as well.

I think Maria will be an excellent employee, says Floyd County Supervisor, Doug Kamm. With Wednesday being the first day of the transition from the old to the new, hopes are high that the transition is smooth and that the changes will be beneficial moving forward.
