The Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs named the state’s first coordinator for female veterans on Monday.
Senior Master Sgt. Laura J. McKee is an Air Force reservist who served nearly 1,000 combat hours during multiple deployments.
McKee’s duties as coordinator will include raising awareness of federal and state services and benefits available to female veterans.
Indiana has more than 33,000 female veterans and about 2,300 women currently serving.
McKee will assume responsibility beginning January 26th. The position was created by lawmakers last year.
