Military veterans can ride free on Santa Fe buses

A new program that allows military veterans in Santa Fe to ride city buses for free is up and running.
Veterans can sign up at the Santa Fe Trails administrative office at 2931 Rufina St. They should bring a Veterans Affairs identification card and proof of Santa Fe residency in the form of a utility bill or a license.
The city said the first card will be issued for free. A replacements will cost $5.
IDs will not have an expiration date and once presented to the bus driver, will enable veterans to ride free, the city said in a news release.
The program was approved by the City Council in April.
The sacrifice made by the men and women who serve our country is so important, Mayor Javier Gonzales said in a statement. This is one small way for us to say thank you, and hopefully ease some of the transportation burdens facing our veterans.
