New Medical Center Director Named for Shreveport VA

The Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Toby Mathew as the new Director of the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center.

Mathew will oversee delivery of health care to more than 200,000 Veterans and includes three community based outpatient clinics serving Veterans in 12 Louisiana parishes, 11 counties in Southern Arkansas and nine counties in East Texas.

The medical center is classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1C Facility which accepts referrals from the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System and the Alexandria, Louisiana VA Medical Center.

South Central VA Health Care Network director Rica Lewis-Payton said, We are excited to bring Mr. Mathew on board as the new director of the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. His sound leadership qualities and proven experience will be valuable assets for the facility, the employees and volunteers, and most importantly, for the Veterans we are honored to serve.”

Mathew has held progressive leadership positions in Little Rock, AR; Alexandria, LA, San Antonio, TX, Washington, DC and Houston, TX. He received his Bachelor degree in Biology from Texas Tech University, and a Masters degree in Health Care Administration/Business Administration from University of Houston.

Mathew is member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Arkansas Health Executive Forum, South Texas Chapter of the ACHE, ACHE- Southeast Texas Chapter and Founding member, Upsilon Phi Delta Honor Society Chapter.
