Pittsburgh VA Closes Hospital Unit Due to Stomach Virus

The Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System has temporarily closed one of its behavioral health units at its University Drive hospital because of the presence of the Norovirus or stomach flu.

The Pittsburgh VA is not accepting new patients into the facility to prevent the spread of the virus, officials said. The closing took effect today.

The VA Pittsburgh said it is following U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocol for treating the Norovirus in health-care settings, including taking isolation precautions, which will be in place for a minimum of 48 hours after a patients symptoms go away.

Staff are isolating and treating patients with symptoms, the VA said.
