Heart of Florida Detachment No. 1107 will host the U.S. Marine Corps 239th Birthday and Military Ball starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at American Legion Post 8, 300 Ave. M NW, Winter Haven. VETERANS DAY CEREMONY

Presented by Polk County Veterans Council, the ceremony will focus on World War II. Special guests will participate. Ceremony, 10 a.m. Nov. 8 at Veterans Park, followed by a parade, then a festival at Munn Park.

SEA OF FLAGS Haines City

First Presbyterian Church plans to honor military and safety forces with 1,000 American flags on its campus Nov. 10-28. Each 3-by-5-foot flag on an 8-foot pole will be dedicated in honor or in memory of a loved one who served. Flags are available for a donation and will be available for pickup after Dec. 1.
