Specialist to Help with Veterans Benefits in Colorado

A veterans benefits specialist is visiting the Western Slope this week, meeting with veterans and their survivors to address a variety of issues.

Barbara Martinez, who is based in the Denver Regional Veterans Benefits Office, will be available one-on-one to answer questions and address issues with benefits, including claims for military-related injuries or illnesses, veterans home loans, low-income wartime veterans pension requests, pensions for widows and widowers of wartime veterans, survivors compensation claims for veterans who died of a service-connected disability or were rated as totally and permanently disabled at the time of their death, and other issues.

Martinez is in Glenwood Springs today. All appointments are booked, but veterans and their survivors can call 970-945-1007 to schedule an appointment for her next visit.

Martinezs schedule for the rest of the week is:

*Tuesday in Grand Junction, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Java Junction in the Teller Arms Retail Center across from the VA Medical Center. Walk-ins are welcome.

From 3 to 6 p.m. she will be at the Veterans Art Center at 12th Street and Ute Avenue.

*Wednesday in Grand Junction, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Homes for All Veterans inside the Center for Independence, 740 Gunnison Ave.

Several slots still are open; sign up in person at the Homes For All Veterans office by 2 p.m. Tuesday.

*Thursday in Montrose at the Montrose Veterans Community Clinic on Colorado Avenue. All appointments are booked; call 970-249-7791 to schedule an appointment for Martinezs next visit.

*Friday in Rifle, from 9 to ?11 a.m. at the Rifle State Veterans Home, 851 E. 5th Street.
