VA to Invest $4.8 Billion in Healthcare Infrastructure
The VA announced today that it will be allocating $4.8 billion in fiscal year 2026 to modernize, repair and upgrade its health care facilities under the Veterans Health Administration’s Non-Recurring Maintenance program (NRM).
The NRM program funds one-time maintenance projects for VA facilities, equipment, and infrastructure that are not part of routine, recurring maintenance. These projects include significant maintenance, replacements, or upgrades needed to maintain operational capability and advance healthcare delivery for veterans who rely on VA disability benefits. The $4.8 billion investment will be the largest single-year investment in the NRM in VA’s history.
The VA has announced that this investment will include:
· $2.8 billion to repair and upgrade outdated infrastructure systems in medical facilities.
· $1 billion for maintenance and modernization of electronic health record systems, including facility preparation for future electronic health record modernization updates.
· $500 million for major building upgrades like elevators, electrical systems, and boiler plants.
· $500 million to modernize medical centers for current and future care that serve veterans relying on va disability rates. Here is the full list of projects for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026, totaling $468 million. The VA will determine additional projects on a quarterly basis.
