WWII Vet Receives Medals 68 Years Later as a Christmas Gift
Bud Koshewa never served on a World War II battlefield, but he played a very important role in that fight.
He deployed to Alaska more than 70 years ago to keep the countrys communication lines open. Koshewa is very proud of his service and talks about it every Christmas, so this year his daughters went of a journey to give him a gift hell never forget.
“At 93, there’s not a lot that he really needs or wants, said Koshewas daughter, Karen Koshewa.
One thing he didnt have was something he earned 68 years ago. At wars end, Bud Koshewa was ready to leave his military achievement behind and come back to his home in Louisville, Kentucky.
“He had a girlfriend back home who he was very much in love with, who happened to be our mom, said daughter Kim Koshewa.
So his daughters hatched a plan.
“These are your papers — your original discharge papers,” said his daughters on Christmas Day.
In finding those papers stuffed away, Bud Koshewas daughters found more something that Bud Koshewa himself didnt even know.
“You earned more than the Meritorious Service Award, dad. Those are all the medals and ribbons you earned while serving in World War II, said his two daughters.
A family friend in the military helped find all the medals and mounted them together for Bud Koshewa.
“It only took us 68 years to figure all this out!” his daughters said.
“I’m beginning to think it was worth all the trouble!” Bud Koshewa said.
